With the ARGUS 145, intec GmbH presents a multi-talented tester for a wide range of applications: This handheld tester includes not only an extensive range of functions for evaluating data transmissions on broadband accesses such as ADSL, ADSL2/2+, SHDSL and Ethernet, but also a VoIP test for the same interfaces. Combined with its IPTV tests and the traditional telephony tests for use on BRI, U-interface and POTS accesses, the ARGUS 145 shines as a triple play tester, which tests and evaluates a wide range of speech, data and video services. All of that in just one device – with no module swapping.
With its Voice over IP test, the ARGUS 145 simulates both incoming
and outgoing VoIP connections, for example with the widely used SIP protocol, and then displays the relevant parameters. The easily
configured VoIP telephone emulation also supports “Echo Tests” and has an “Auto Answer Mode” so that the tester can accept incoming calls automatically. The IPTV test, which includes an STB emulation and displays the most significant QoS parameters, tests and then evaluates broadcast services (IGMP protocol) and video on demand services (RTSP protocol). These tests can be preconfigured using convenient profiles just like the IP tests, which support the evaluation of data transmissions using file downloads of any size and from any site via HTTP and FTP as well as uploads via FTP. The ARGUS 145 can operate in either Bridge or Router mode. On a physical level, the ARGUS 145 can also perform resistance and capacitance measurements to test the condition of the copper lines.
Via its USB interface, the ARGUS 145 can be connected to a PC to evaluate, archive and further process the stored measurement data with the aid of the software included in the ARGUS package. An optional SHDSL 4-wire interface will be available in the future.
Thanks to its modular construction, the ARGUS 145 can be purchased equipped with its full range of functions or just some of the tests named – selected to suit your specific needs. Individual functions can then be conveniently added as upgrades at any time. Furthermore, with the aid of firmware updates, the ARGUS 145’s capabilities can be expanded to deal with the test scenarios of the future – the current firmware is available free-of-charge from intec’s download service at www.argus.info.
