The ARGUS products – an overview

ARGUS testers show complex relationships in a clear and simple manner and are thus valuable aids in the installation of new ISDN accesses as well as in locating and clearing faults in existing PBXs. All the ARGUS products are especially easy and convenient to use. This accomplishment is achieved through to a variety of features such as an intuitive menu system, a multitude of automatic displays, a large and yet practical selection of functions and the low weight of the testers. New developments flow into the production continually – so intec products are always up-to-date and reflect the latest customer requirements. The user can update the tester himself, since the software updates and extensions are available for downloading free of charge from www.argus.info.

Since all ARGUS handheld testers can be directly connected to a PC, you can organize the transferred test results in a clearer form or create an access acceptance report for your own documentation or to document errors for your customer and the network operator.

ADSL Tester - ARGUS 44 / ARGUS 43
The ARGUS 43 and ARGUS 44 handheld testers offer valuable support for quickly and conveniently setting up ADSL accesses. The ARGUS 43 supports the measurement of the up- and downstream line parameters with a graphic display. It can be used with ADSL-over-POTS as well as ADSL-over-ISDN (in accord with the ITU-T G.992.1 (Annex B), ITU-T G.992.2, ITU-T G.994.1 and ANSI T1.413.2 standards). The ARGUS 44 is a combi-tester, which, in addition to the functions of the ARGUS 43, also supports terminal simulation on POTS and BRI accesses. Variants of the ARGUS 44 are available which offer ADSL support for just ADSL-over-POTS or ADSL-over-ISDN. Besides offering the automatic test routines for the various types of accesses and protocols for which the ARGUS ISDN testers are well-known, the ARGUS 44 also measures the quality of the line and the maximum possible transmission speed, and thus simplifies the job of correctly setting up an access.

An optional IP ping function and an Ethernet interface with an Ethernet through-mode can be added to enable the ARGUS 43 and 44 to test Internet connections. Thus, network operators can use these testers to exchange data packets with the Internet provider to determine the transmission quality of Internet connections. For this task, the testers offer a whole range of additional test functions, which include among others a trace-route function for displaying all of the routers involved as well as ADSL data throughput tests for the TFTP and http protocols. A TCP/IP dump includes the IP data and thus permits the user to perform an IP protocol analysis.

ARGUS 4 - Entry-Level ADSL Tester
The entry-level ARGUS 4 offers solid evidence that ADSL measurment technology need not cost a fortune. It can measure the maximum ADSL data rate and line parameters such as the signal-to-noise ratio or upstream and downstream attenuation. In addition, it has a trace function and an automatic test sequence that includes all its main functions. As an option, the ARGUS 4 can be equipped with tests for POTS, BRI and U-interface accesses to transfor this "entry-level" into a universal POTS, ISDN and ADSL tester.

SHDSL Tester - ARGUS 28
The SHDSL (Symmetric High-bit-rate Digital Subscriber Line) tester ARGUS 28 provides support for network operators especially in performing the installation and setup of the new 2 or 4-wire SHDSL systems. In this context, the tester simulates both the network and the customer side of the SHDSL connection. The ARGUS 28 is available in various versions – ranging from a purely SHDSL tester all the way to a universal tester, which supports every measurement routine needed for SHDSL, E1, X.21, PRI, BRI and POTS interfaces. Even the customer's terminal equipment can be included in the measurement process by simply connecting it to the output on the tester, which then serves as a SHDSL modem.
